Wild Animals Belong in the Wild

The illegal pet trade continues to threaten the welfare of countless wild animals, often hiding in plain sight—on social media platforms where exotic species are showcased as status symbols or novelty pets.

At ACRES, we’ve encountered cases of owls, pangolins, and other wild animals being kept in homes—often in inadequate conditions that severely compromise their health and wellbeing. These animals are not domesticated. They require complex diets, specific environments, and freedom to express their natural behaviours—none of which a typical household can provide.

We actively monitor and use our social media platforms to educate the public and encourage people to report sightings of wild animals kept illegally as pets. Every report helps us intervene and rescue animals from cruelty, while also working with authorities to hold offenders accountable.

Keeping wild animals as pets is not only unethical, but also illegal in Singapore. Help us protect wildlife—report, don’t share.
